Terms of use
Last updated October 17, 2026
Impound Watch is an independent archive of public vehicle auction notices. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
What the site is, and is not
We collect the notices that New York City's Marshals and Sheriff publish, and add data from public sources. We are not affiliated with the City of New York, its Marshals or Sheriff, NHTSA, any tow yard or any lender. We do not run auctions, sell cars or take bids.
Check everything before you bid
The site is for information only. We read the notices by machine, decode VINs through NHTSA and pick stock photos of similar models, and any step can be wrong. A notice can also change after we read it. Lender status shows what a notice printed on its date, and says nothing for certain about a car's title or liens. Nothing here is legal, financial or title advice.
Before you bid, confirm the details with the original notice, the Marshal's or Sheriff's office, and the New York DMV. You decide whether to buy a car, and you carry that risk.
Other people's content
Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under the licenses credited on each car's page. History reports are sold by other companies under their own terms. We may earn a commission when you buy one, and we do not guarantee their contents.
Fair use of the site
You may use the site to research cars, for yourself or for your business. Please do not:
- copy the database wholesale, or republish it as your own service, without our written permission;
- send automated requests fast enough to slow the site for others;
- try to reach the private parts of the site, or get around how it works;
- use the site to harass anyone named in a notice.
We may block access that breaks these terms.
No warranty
The site is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a purpose and uninterrupted service.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss from relying on the site, including the cost of a car you bought or a lien on it. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the past twelve months or $100.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and using the site after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Our privacy policy explains what we collect.
